Create a new document.
To create a new file can be used in several ways:
1) Traditionally - the main menu: File -> New.
2) The combination of keys Control N.
3) Hold the Control key, double-click on the working field of the window.
In all cases, after the above-mentioned actions have a dialog box, creating a new image.
Generally the contents of the window is divided into two blocs:
1) The section describes the size and characteristics of the picture.
2) Section with info about the contents of the picture.
The first section indicates the height and width of the image created, the resolution and color model describes created picture. The size of image can be specified in different units of measurement, using the popup menu, which is located right of the size box. An interesting fact is the dependency file size from image size. By changing the numbers in the fields Width and Heght can easily see that while increasing the size of the figure is increasing, and the initial file size. There are several options to describe the colors in the picture. This topic will be addressed in next topics, but currently recommend setting mode RGB. Section Contents allows you to set the background color of the created image.
- White - the background color of white;
- Background color-in Photoshop, there are two types of color nominated - Foreground Color and Background Color. Color designated as the Background Color, will be background color of new created image.
- Transparent - the background color will not be, that is background will be transparent. But creating a new image with a transparent background, you will see that the whole picture in some black and white squares are very similar to a taxi. Thus Photoshop shows you that the background transparent. The color of these squares can be configured via the menu Edit -> Preferences -> Transparancy & Gamut:
As you can see, nothing complicated. Grid Size enables you to choose the size of the element mesh. In popup menu the following options: None - there are no squares (grid), Small, Medium, Large.
Opening document.
Open implemented in several ways:
1) The first method was traditional. The file was called Open command, from the menu File.
2) The second method also does not pretend to be original. Opening the file being a combination of keys Control O.
3) This method is original and easy to use. Just double click the left mouse button on the working field of the window Photoshop.
4) When viewing a folder with images, we often want to simply drag viewed files in the program editor. Photoshop, like many other programs that allow a simple drag files from Windows, or any image viewer on the working field Photoshop, open dragged document.
The first three cases, opening a file takes place by a special dialog box presented in the figure.
To open the files, there is also a command Open As from main menu File. From Open command, it is different in that we provide in what format to open the file, when you open file, Photoshop transform it into this format. For more information about the file formats you will find in the tenth lesson.
Photoshop remember what files we have opened the last, they are easily and quickly opened with Open Recent command in the menu File. When you move your mouse on the item Open Recent - opens list of files opened last. You can select a file and Photoshop will open its passing standard window opening files. Photoshop remembers the last ten files, but that number you can change in Photoshop settings: Edit -> Preferences -> File Handling:
Saving document.
Once the image is edited, and in the process of editing pictures are saved in a file on disk. To save a document in Photoshop, there are three commands: Save, Save As and Save for Web. First of them save document with it current name. Save As - saves the file with a different name. The name of the document is changed to the new. Save for Web - presents a complex arrangement of images for posting on the Internet that will be discussed in detail in the tenth lesson.
In the File Name box, enter a new filename. By default, it is proposed to the current name. Please note that the file extension in the File Name is not specified. It is fully determined by the format selected in the list, Save As. By default, proposed the same type of file as the file of this document. Save Thumbnail check box lets you save with the image of the reduced copy a thumbnail. It is used in the dialog box Open, for preview opening images. Save a Copy - a copy of the document in the file with a different name. The current name of the document is not changed.
When preparing images for posting on the Internet is set to register characters used in file names. Some operating systems (including UNIX, which is used by servers in the Internet) distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters in the names of files and directories. To avoid confusion with the case-sensitive, usually enjoyed by a single (usually lower). Checkbox Use Lower Case Extensions makes Photoshop to use for extension (file type), lower case.
Closing document.
In order to close the current document should select Close from the menu File. Close the file, you can press Ctrl + W. If before closing the file, you dont save all of your modifications, photoshop will tell you about this and ask whether you believe in what you want to close the file without saving any changes. From your answer depends what happens:
Return to the previous copy.
If you made any modifications that do not suit you, then you can always go back to the version of the document stored on the disk. You certainly can close the current version of the document without saving your modifications, and to open a saved version of the same document. But you can use the Revert from menu File. This command will do the same, ie instead of the current version of the document will open the last saved to the disk version. This is not the only way to cancel the wrong action - on the other ways you read a little further in the same class.
