I would like to note that Adobe Photoshop is not for painting, but for editing images. Therefore, you will not be able to draw anything you want with brush tool. More often than not, you will need to create new based on existing images. However, the brush is very important.

Drawing tools let you create arbitrary lines, simulating various real instruments. To drawing tools include:

1) With Brush you can create lines with smooth, or blurred edges of the rigid lines of different forms.
2) Pencil creates rigid line, simulating a pencil. It belongs to the same group as the brush. That is, if you can not find this tool, click the small arrow next to the brush and select the pencil tool from the palette.
Each of these tools have options. The most important parameters that determine the appearance of lines, are the thickness and shape. You can assign brushes in different sizes and shape with the help of a palette Options. So, select your brush and look at this palette. Let’s consider the options from left to right.

In the first list with the image of a brush, there is a Tool Presets. It is present in the left side of the Options palette, regardless of which tool is selected. If you regularly use a tool with some specific parameters, for example, oval brush with a diameter of 45 pixels, in the mode of Multiply, you should save it as preset, so that a cause of the list. It is much easier than re-adjust every time the same parameters. Save preset can be as follows: Open the pop-up palette of harvest tools by clicking on the picture painted by the left side of the Palette Options. Then there are two ways:

1) Click on the image of a clean sheet and enter the name of preset. Then we can maintain the tool with the current settings as a preset.
2) Enter in menu presets palette. Do not remember how to do it? You need to click the black triangle in the circle in the upper right corner of the palette. In opened menu select the first item - New Tool Preset, and type the name of preset.

The next option is located next to the word Brush. He is responsible for setting the brush size and shape. If we open the list, it opens pop-up palette, shown in the figure, which you can select a brush from the list or adjust the diameter of the current. Note that there are brushes presets, rather than general tools. At the bottom of the menu that lists the group palette brush presets. For example, Assorted Brushes - art brush (I recommend them to open, it is very beautiful), Square Brushes - square brushes, etc.

In this menu, the following important commands:

Reset Brushes - remove opened brushes presets, replacing them in the brushes by default. It happens that after the tumultuous experiments can not find a normal round brush, then this will simply irreplaceable.
Load Brushes - brushes for download from the file at the end of the current list. By the way, brushes are stored in files with abr (Adobe BRushes - easy to remember). Standard brushes are stored at C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Photoshop_folder \ Presets \ Brushes \ *. ABR
Save Brushes - save all the brushes from the current list in a single file.
Replace Brushes - download brushes from a file instead of the current.

A now try to reproduce this image. You dont have be a painter, have little orientation to the variety of brushes Photoshop.

Next Palette Options Mode parameter determines the mode of paint brushes. On the modes will be discussed below.

Opacity - defines the opacity of the brush.

Flow - this parameter has absolutely the same parameters opacity. But, of course, that the creators of Photoshop would not let such nonsense, so the differences are there. If you are not releasing the mouse button, hold the brush a few times on the same location on the image, the colors literally thicken, ie transparency of the layer caused by each will be striving to complete the opacity (if you want you can read again). As you guessed, in the case of opacity, how many times the brush is not occurring (of course, if you do not release the mouse) caused by the transparency of the layer does not change.

Right icon is transferred to the brush aerograph (airbrush). This mode differs from the conventional view that the paint as it is sprayed. This seems to work sprayer.

Palette Brushes.
And last but not least, the option in the right pane opens the palette Brushes. After opening the Brushes palette eye just run. But we will not succumb to the temptation to try everything at once, and explore the range consistently. On the left side of the palette, you will see a variety of options to customize the form of a brush stroke. Enumerate them briefly:

Brush Tip Shape - setting the brush shape.
Shape Dynamics - dynamic change in the form of a brush, in the smear.
Scattering - “spraying paint in the process of drawing.
Texture - texture overlay on the brush.
Dual Brush - the creation of a “double-brush.”
Color Dynamics - dynamic change of color in the stroke.
Other Dynamics - Other changes in brush in the smear.

Now stop for all of this in detail. The figure depicts the setting of Brush Tip Shape. Diameter - the diameter of the brush, Angle - the angle, Roundness - the degree of circularity.

For round and oval brushes, there is the option Hardness, defining the blurred edges. We want to create a form of the brush itself, rather than impose some abstract figures. This feature is also available! In the form with the scheme of a brush, there are bold points, which are the keys to form a brush. Move bold point, the form of a brush can be changed from round to elliptical, moving points up or down. Also, the scheme has an arrow that points to the direction of the ellipse. Naturally, there is no experiments do not.

Parameter Spacing helps paint strokes jerky. Spacing - the distance between the strokes in the smear, which is measured as a percentage from the diameter of the brush. To all of this became clear, take a look at the picture.

Shape Dynamics is such settings: Size Jitter (random changes in size), Angle Jitter (random change of the angle), Roundness Jitter (random change of circularity).

Under each of these parameters have a list of Control, we choose, as changing this setting:

Off - do not change. For example, Size Jitter will randomly change its size in the dispersion, but no trend to the broadening or narrowing of the brush will not.
Fade - will disappear over a specified number of steps. Ie will be a tendency to decrease.
Pen Pressure - depending on the pressures on the pen. ”
Pen Tilt - depending on the inclination of the pen. In other words, from the direction of drawing.

Scattering has the parameters: Scatter, Both Axes - on both axes. Count (the degree of splashing), Count Jitter (random degree spray).

Texture - a texture can be scaled using the Scale, to strengthen and weaken its effect by means of Depth. Figure texture imposed on a round brush.

Dual Brush - sets the current brush shape smear, as selected in this option - the type of smear. The second brush will be texture for the first. The result can not but impress! On the picture on a round brush diameter 65 px brush imposed Grass diameter 134 px from the set of Assorted Brushes.

In Color Dynamics upper slider adjusts the shift from core to the background color in the stroke. Purity - the accuracy of the transfer of color.

Other Dynamics has parameters Opacity Jitter (variation of transparency) and Flow Jitter (variation of intensity). In the example Opacity Jitter = 0%, but the importance of Control = Fade. That is, the opacity of the brush decreases in the number of steps, which in this case is 50. With this admission, you can simulate the gradually dissolve in the background of smears brush.

Below are 5 flags:

Noise - the addition of noise to form a brush.
Wet Edges - imitation brush with wet edges.
Airbrush - aerograph mode.
Smoothing - Smoothing lines.

In PhotoShop, there is a special interactive Palette Options. In the Options palette, you can adjust the settings for any instrument, with each instrument will have its own set of parameters. To set a specific tool you must first select it in the tool palette. Then gain Options palette set the options settings for the selected tool.

Options Palette at the top of the window Photoshop, immediately below the main menu. Palette can be moved around the screen, but it is better to leave it in place. In earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop deployed Options panel in the form of a floating palette, but now, this palette is nice.
Here is an example of how the palette looks like this for Brush Tool:

You can enable or disable the display palette Options using the Options item in the menu Window.

To create a new file can be used in several ways:

1) Traditionally - the main menu: File -> New.
2) The combination of keys Control N.
3) Hold the Control key, double-click on the working field of the window.
In all cases, after the above-mentioned actions have a dialog box, creating a new image.

Generally the contents of the window is divided into two blocs:

1) The section describes the size and characteristics of the picture.
2) Section with info about the contents of the picture.

The first section indicates the height and width of the image created, the resolution and color model describes created picture. The size of image can be specified in different units of measurement, using the popup menu, which is located right of the size box. An interesting fact is the dependency file size from image size. By changing the numbers in the fields Width and Heght can easily see that while increasing the size of the figure is increasing, and the initial file size. There are several options to describe the colors in the picture. This topic will be addressed in next topics, but currently recommend setting mode RGB. Section Contents allows you to set the background color of the created image.

White - the background color of white;

Background color-in Photoshop, there are two types of color nominated - Foreground Color and Background Color. Color designated as the Background Color, will be background color of new created image.

Transparent - the background color will not be, that is background will be transparent. But creating a new image with a transparent background, you will see that the whole picture in some black and white squares are very similar to a taxi. Thus Photoshop shows you that the background transparent. The color of these squares can be configured via the menu Edit -> Preferences -> Transparancy & Gamut:

As you can see, nothing complicated. Grid Size enables you to choose the size of the element mesh. In popup menu the following options: None - there are no squares (grid), Small, Medium, Large.

Opening document.

Open implemented in several ways:

1) The first method was traditional. The file was called Open command, from the menu File.
2) The second method also does not pretend to be original. Opening the file being a combination of keys Control O.
3) This method is original and easy to use. Just double click the left mouse button on the working field of the window Photoshop.
4) When viewing a folder with images, we often want to simply drag viewed files in the program editor. Photoshop, like many other programs that allow a simple drag files from Windows, or any image viewer on the working field Photoshop, open dragged document.
The first three cases, opening a file takes place by a special dialog box presented in the figure.

To open the files, there is also a command Open As from main menu File. From Open command, it is different in that we provide in what format to open the file, when you open file, Photoshop transform it into this format. For more information about the file formats you will find in the tenth lesson.

Photoshop remember what files we have opened the last, they are easily and quickly opened with Open Recent command in the menu File. When you move your mouse on the item Open Recent - opens list of files opened last. You can select a file and Photoshop will open its passing standard window opening files. Photoshop remembers the last ten files, but that number you can change in Photoshop settings: Edit -> Preferences -> File Handling:

Saving document.

Once the image is edited, and in the process of editing pictures are saved in a file on disk. To save a document in Photoshop, there are three commands: Save, Save As and Save for Web. First of them save document with it current name. Save As - saves the file with a different name. The name of the document is changed to the new. Save for Web - presents a complex arrangement of images for posting on the Internet that will be discussed in detail in the tenth lesson.

In the File Name box, enter a new filename. By default, it is proposed to the current name. Please note that the file extension in the File Name is not specified. It is fully determined by the format selected in the list, Save As. By default, proposed the same type of file as the file of this document. Save Thumbnail check box lets you save with the image of the reduced copy a thumbnail. It is used in the dialog box Open, for preview opening images. Save a Copy - a copy of the document in the file with a different name. The current name of the document is not changed.

When preparing images for posting on the Internet is set to register characters used in file names. Some operating systems (including UNIX, which is used by servers in the Internet) distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters in the names of files and directories. To avoid confusion with the case-sensitive, usually enjoyed by a single (usually lower). Checkbox Use Lower Case Extensions makes Photoshop to use for extension (file type), lower case.

Closing document.

In order to close the current document should select Close from the menu File. Close the file, you can press Ctrl + W. If before closing the file, you dont save all of your modifications, photoshop will tell you about this and ask whether you believe in what you want to close the file without saving any changes. From your answer depends what happens:

Return to the previous copy.

If you made any modifications that do not suit you, then you can always go back to the version of the document stored on the disk. You certainly can close the current version of the document without saving your modifications, and to open a saved version of the same document. But you can use the Revert from menu File. This command will do the same, ie instead of the current version of the document will open the last saved to the disk version. This is not the only way to cancel the wrong action - on the other ways you read a little further in the same class.

Let’s get acquainted with the general principles of work with the interface of Adobe Photoshop. The following figure shows the interface elements (in the latest version of photoshop interface little changed for the better, so you havent problems with it).

In the left part of your screen, placed a Toolbar. Tools in Photoshop quite a lot, so they are grouped. In order to activate a tool icon is visible on the screen, click on it. Near some of the pictograms is a small arrow. If you click on it, it opens pop-up palette, which contains tools that are included in the group.

Main elements are located in the so-called floating palettes, which are also connected to the group. Each palette is a tab and has a label with the name. Switching between palettes, is click on the appropriate label palette. In addition to the visual elements in the palette, there is the options menu, which can cause a push of a button, located in the upper right corner of the palette. In the options menu palette, you can choose commands for the current palette and call setup palette point Palette Options. Palettes and their groups can be placed anywhere on the screen. There is also the possibility of combining the palette at their own discretion. You just need to drag the label of one palette to another palette. If you have the desire to leave the palette on the screen alone, it should be easy to drag anywhere on the screen, with the exception of other palettes.

Example:

1) On the right side of the main window are four palettes. Access to individual palettes ensured their labels. Do click on the label Actions in the top third group palettes, and it would be on top of the palette History.
2) Move cursor to the label Palette Actions.
3) Click the left mouse button.
4) Not releasing the mouse button, move the cursor outside the window palette. The current situation Actions palette will retain a thin line of circuit.
5) When the cursor will be outside the History palette, release the mouse button. Palettes will be divided.
6) Do the reverse operation: drag the Actions palette for her label, entered the History palette. Palettes will be grouped again.
To remove a palette from the screen, simply click on the button of its closure. The first time the palette you will regularly disappear :-). This is due to the temporary lack of skills to work with the program. Especially upset is not because the palette is very easy to restore the screen.

Palettes “Office” is located in the main menu. In the menu window you can see the names of palettes. “Tick” beside the name indicates that the palette is open. To open the palette, simply click on its name in the menu window. Then see the box on the menu, and the palette on the screen.
For restore standart palette locations need to be done the following steps: Log on to the main menu item Window, click Workspace and sub Reset Palette Locations. Following this action, the location of all the palettes on the screen to recover the default. If you have lost range of instruments, it is also not a problem. It is also the palette? So, we already know how to find it. Choose Window sub Tools.

At the end of the topic to be told about the interface elements of the program as a status bar. The lower part of the main window holds a status bar. If you do not see the status bar, then it is turned off. As a floating palette, the line of the state included the command Window -> Status Bar. Repeated her choice remove the status bar on the screen.

In the status bar, Photoshop displays information about current operations performed, Windows gives a hint about the functions of this instrument, as well as information about an open document that you select the menu line. Menu opens click on the button with a triangular arrow. In its choice of the following options:

Document Sizes. The memory occupied by the image. Do not confuse the size of the image file.
Document Profile. Color profile document. If the document does not contain a profile, you’ll see the word “Untagged”.
Document Dimensions. The size of the document in pixels.
Scratch Sizes. The first figure shows the amount of memory to deal with all open images, taking into account the clipboard and rollback, as well as images. The second shows the amount of memory available at the moment PhotoShop. If the figure is more than the second, the program uses virtual memory.
Efficiency. The proportion of time during which the program runs in memory. If it is less than 100%, then slow virtual memory used.
Timing. Time spent on the implementation of the latest operation or command.
Current Tool. Clearly, without comment.
Clicking on the information field of the status bar, displays a small window, which shows how the current image will be available when printing on the printer. This is handy when you want to track the correct orientation of the paper (set in the print dialog box), and the size of the image. If you click with hold down the Alt, it will be another window, which will include the physical size of the image in pixels and the current measurement units, image type and resolution.

In the left position of the status bar is a field that displays the current scale of the demonstration images and allows you to specify its size. To see the status bar, all described the data, you must open at least one document. So it will begin to learn the basic operations of the documents.

Hello! I know that you will find my blog. Therefore, I begin to write the lessons about Adobe Photoshop and computer graphics.
Today we’ll talk about the vector and raster graphics. Why is that? To understand what is - Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Photoshop - graphics editor of raster (bitmap) images, with elements of the vector and 3D graphics.
Vector images are composed of units or the curves of mathematical description, ie have only a mathematical essence, the parametric curves of the third order, called Curves Bize. Do not boggle so scary and promising title. In the graphic editors, who work with vector graphics, Bize curves are presented in a visually tangible contours managed to completely visually. Despite the fact that Photoshop editor, especially designed to work with raster graphics, vector graphics present it as an integral part.
The method for constructing raster images are absolutely different from the vector representation. Raster images are composed of a grid of points, which is called the raster. This feature not only the construction of a digital environment. If you see the screen or TV then notice that the image is made up of small dots, called pixels, from the English expression of picture element (pixels). At the core of a human Raster graphics is a simple illusion. Because the pixels are smaller, the eye does not perceive them separately, he already sees the whole picture as a whole.
This will end up about graphics and move on to the next lesson, which I will devote the interface of Adobe Photoshop

Starting Dreamweaver
These lessons along with the screen shots has just been recently revised to use the latest Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 which was released in September 2005. Dreamweaver 8 is a major release and does contain many new features such as code collapse, word wrap, additional CSS support, zooming in design view, etc. However, if you choose not to upgrade, Dreamweaver MX version is acceptable for use in this course.

When you start up Dreamweaver for the first time after installing it, it might as you …

Since we will be learning HTML code and will be doing hand-coding as well as the design features of Dreamweaver, select Coder. In actuality, you can choose either and you will still have all the same functionality. Except that the panels will be laid out differently. That’s all. If you had chosen Designer previously, you can switch to Coder by menu Window -> Workspace Lyout -> Coder so that you Dreamweaver will look somewhat like the screen shots in this course.

New Document
Start by creating a new HTML document in Dreamweaver with File ->New…

XHTML is the new standard. Think of XHTML 1.0 as the version of HTML markup that is after HTML 4.0. We won’t be looking at the XHTML specnow (because the reading is too dry and technical). But just know that this link in W3C’s website (W3 Consortium’s website) is the ultimate reference point since they are the ones who defined XHMTL.

After clicking Create in the above dialog, you will see that the development environment in Dreamweaver is very similar to that of Fireworks in that you have collapsable and tear-able panels.

In Dreamweaver, there is an extra document bar with three buttons “code“, “split“, and “design” to enable you to switch between these three views. If you don’t see this bar, select menu View -> Toolbar -> Document.

Go to the code view now by pressing the code button now. Here you see the default HTML skeleton code that Dreamweaver has generated in your new document.

These are basically the code that you would write every time you create a new XHTML document. Dreamweaver is nice enough to write them for you. The things in angle brackets are tags. The very first line that has doctype in it. This basically indicates to the browser what version of HTML code we are using.

The <html> tag indicates the start of the HTML document. And the </html> tag indicates the end of the document. Although this is really an XHMTL document, we are going to use the term HTML loosely. Note that tags often comes in pairs: <html> is the start tag, and </html> is the end tag.

You can nest additional tags inside tags. For example, inside the body of the <html> tag are the <head> tags and the <body> tags as indicated. You can say that an HTML document has two sections: a head section and a body section as shown in the above diagram.

The head section contains things like the title of you web page for example. Give our page a title by adding a title of My First Page by doing as shown.

We will now test our page in our browser to see what it looks like. Dreamweaver can launch your browser for you and load the page if you do menu Menu -> Preview In Browser.

If your menu does not have any browsers listed, you can select Edit Browser List in menu above to setup Dreamweaver to become aware of the browsers that you have on your computer.

Dreamweaver needs to have a saved document in order to preview, so it might ask if you want to save the changes made to the current document. Say “yes” and save this file as firstpage.html in a new folder called creativeworks by following these steps…

After Dreamweaver launches your page, you should see the following come up. Notice our title in the window header.

Right now, it doesn’t matter what browser you use. However, in the Intro CSS course, you will be using both Internet Explorer and Firefox. So you might just want to get those two browsers to start with. If you do not have Firefox, it is a free download.

Dreamweaver has made this testing task easy for you by giving you a shortcut key of F12 and a toolbar button as shown.

So there is no excuse for not testing frequently.
Adding Content
So far our page is empty. We want to add some content to our page. Click the Design button to go to the design view and start typing the following.
<

Switch back to the code view. See how your content is added within the <body> tag.

The body tag is what contains the content of our web page.

Go back to the design view to add another paragraph.

Switch back to code. See how the <p> tag is used to represent paragraph.

There are two tags. One <p> tag (known as the start tag) that indicates the start of the paragraph and one </p>(known as the end tag) that indicates the end of the paragraph. The end tag is the one with a slash right after the first angle bracket. The text “The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.” in between the two tag is known as the body of the tag, or the content of the tag.

What if you don’t want two paragraphs, but two lines by themselves? Go back to the design view and remove the paragraphs so that you have only one line.

Now you want to break the line at the location shown. Just do Ctrl-Enter at that location. (Ctrl-Enter is equivalent to the menu Insert -> HTML -> Special Characters -> Line Break. This menu item is buried so deep that virtually eveyone uses Ctrl-Enter instead.)

And see that the line break tag <br /> was generated…

The line break tag looks a little bit different from the other tags. What is it? It has a slash / just before the second angle bracket. If you look around in the above code, there is not other tag that looks like this.

All tags comes in pair: a start tag plus an end tag. For example, the paragraph tags: <p> and </p>. But where is the end tag for the line break tag? The line break tag does not have content in its body and therefore its start and end tag can be combined into this notation: <br />

About XHTML syntax you can read there:
